Celebrating Women’s History Month: Yvette LaBombard
At Avangrid, Diversity and Inclusion in the workplace matters to us. During Women’s History Month, we honor women’s contributions to history, culture, and society. Throughout this month, we’re spotlighting some of the women on our team who make Avangrid and the world a better place. Meet : Yvette LaBombard, Senior Director Gas Engineering and Hydro Engineering/Operations.
Tell us about your life before Avangrid. What’s your career journey been like? Your education?
I graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. Before Avangrid, I worked as a licensed NY Professional Engineer in the consulting engineering business sector for 12 years. The projects I worked on included various transportation and water resource projects for public agencies (towns to state and Army Corps of Engineers). My career progression there was from my time as an entry level, graduate engineer to manager of projects.
Now, your life at Avangrid: What are your main responsibilities in your role, and what is your favorite part of the work you do?
My responsibilities include gas engineering including system planning and technical services for all Avangrid network companies and hydro generation engineering and operations in New York.
What are your passions, hobbies, favorite pastimes?
Bicycling (I used to race), our 2 shih tzu boys, cooking and baking healthy meals and treats
Who is a woman who inspires you? Why?
Past – Claire Fisher, now retired, built and owned her own WBE consulting engineering company (not where I worked, but I considered her a mentor). Now – as corny as this may sound, Trish. She’s a brave, strong, dedicated leader in the face of adversity.
What advice would you give to a young woman looking to follow in your footsteps?
Speak up and out, be strong and secure in yourself (you are more than you realize), be and stay true to yourself (you do you boo 😊).
