Avangrid Technicians Keep Camp Tradition Flying High
Sometimes being an exceptional community partner means lending a helping hand when it’s needed most, even when it isn’t directly tied to producing power.
That’s exactly what happened recently in Oregon when Camp Baldwin, a longtime neighbor of Avangrid’s wind projects and a Scouting America camp serving Scouting in NW Oregon and SW Washington, found itself facing an unexpected problem. Just weeks before welcoming hundreds of Scouts for the summer, camp organizers discovered the rope on their 40-foot flagpole had broken. With no easy way to make the repair themselves, they turned to their Avangrid neighbors for help.
Four Avangrid technicians from the Hay Canyon, Star Point, and Montague wind projects answered the call. Bringing their bucket truck and expertise working at heights, the team installed a brand-new rope and restored the flagpole to working order just in time for Scouts to arrive.

“The folks at Camp Baldwin contacted me with a tricky problem, and we were happy to jump in help them solve it,” said Brian Kittleson, Hay Canyon & Starpoint Wind Technician. “With the right tools and experience, it was a simple fix. And we had fun doing it. We’re proud to be good neighbors, and when there’s an opportunity to lend a hand, we’re always happy to help.”
Thanks to the team’s efforts, Camp Baldwin was ready to welcome Scouts a few weeks later, ensuring the traditional flag ceremonies could continue uninterrupted. The project was a small gesture, but one that reflects Avangrid’s commitment to supporting the communities where we live and work.
