Avangrid’s 2024 Interns are Here!

Over 100 interns have joined Avangrid to undergo a 10-week internship experience this summer. Their roles span across all Avangrid’s lines of business – Corporate, Networks, and Renewables – and they are working in offices such as Information Technology, Customer Service, the Office of the CEO, Process and Technology, and Gas Operations. Of the more than 100 interns, 22 are returning from last summer.
“We are pleased that the internship experience continues to grow year over year,” said Maureen Biddle, Senior Director of Talent Development & Training. “These talented individuals are the future of Avangrid and through this journey, we will provide them with the training, resources, and networking they need to launch a rewarding and successful career.”
Interns kicked off that journey last month with the Declare Your Brand workshop or speaker session. In the workshop, new interns created a personal brand statement that exemplified their values and purpose. In the speaker session, returning interns met with two former interns, Carter Kragero, Lead Analyst – Market Risk, and Hallie Rimkunas, PM – Major Construction, who shared their advice for living your personal brand and growing a career at Avangrid.
Interns then met for networking events at company locations across Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New York, and Oregon. These events were led by intern ambassadors with support from participants in Cohort 2 of the Global Graduate program, another early career development program for full-time employees. At Avangrid Headquarters in Orange, CT, intern ambassadors Stephanie Santiago (Control) and Caroline Taylor (Supplier Diversity) moderated the event, which included icebreaker activities and time for reflection.
“As returning interns, we know how important it is to make connections with your peers,” said Stephanie. “With this event, we aimed to create a sense of community so that as the interns navigate the working world, in many cases for the first time, they know they have a network of support behind them.”
The Orange event concluded with a panel featuring four Global Graduates who shared advice about navigating one’s early career. Work hard, ask questions, get to know your colleagues, and always challenge yourself are some of the tidbits they shared.
“The Global Graduate program is a natural next step for interns,” said Justin Miller, a second-year Global Graduate who’s currently working in IT Security. “The two-year rotational program enables participants to take on different roles in various departments across Avangrid before stepping into an international rotation at one of the Iberdrola Group companies. It’s another way to discover one’s passions and strengths.”
Over the next few weeks, interns will continue their learning journey with more networking events and a workshop or speaker session about radiating confidence. At the end of their 10 weeks, they will demonstrate the skills they learned by making pitches to the business about what makes them an asset to Avangrid.
