Meet a Developer: Jeff Reinkemeyer

Meet a Developer: Jeff Reinkemeyer

What inspired you to work in development?
I am a mechanical engineer by background and have always had interest in energy conservation and optimization while working in the petrochemical and other heavy industries (as a plant engineer and consultant). However, my career path became more focused on energy as my reaction to 9/11/2001, when it became my strong belief (and remains to this day) that our country needs to be energy independent. That focus is what moved me into energy generation.

What would you recommend for someone getting started in the energy industry?
I would first commend them for their choice. They would be entering this industry during a very transformational period in the industry. I would also recommend that they be flexible and very willing to learn. Adaptability and willingness to take on roles that you may not be initially comfortable with are very important to long term success in this (as well as any) industry.

What new developments or technologies in the energy industry have you most excited?
I think that the advancement of AI and datacenter growth, while a bit scary for the industry when trying to figure out how to match anticipated demand growth with supply, is very exciting and positive for the future.

What is the most positive change you’ve seen in energy over the last fifteen years?
The rapid reduction in Levelized Cost of Energy for both wind and solar has positioned these industries to better maintain a sustainable portion of the energy mix moving ahead. Battery Storage technology, scalability, and improved utilization in situations that optimizes its value has been exciting to see as well.

What is your favorite thing about working at Avangrid?
I have worked for Avangrid for more than 18 years now, and my favorite part of this company is the people I work with. I have encountered very few “egos” in my career here. We all work together and that makes it fun.
